This graph from L2’s Digital IQ Index: Department Stores shows the percentage of retail sales m-commerce and e-commerce account for in each country. Korea is the lead, deriving 13% of its retail sales from e-commerce and 2% from mobile commerce. Despite the proliferation of mobile devices in China, m-commerce still accounts for less than 1% of retail sales in the country.
But are companies matching each country’s demand for more digital commerce? The graph below from the same report looks at the average Digital IQ of department stores in each country. South Korea-based department stores had an average Digital IQ score of 78, far behind the US, UK and even Canada, where m-commerce and e-commerce sales make up the least percentage of retail sales.
