Watch W‘s ‘The Season’, a new short film that follows the magazine’s six-person fashion team, led by editor in chief Stefano Tonchi, as they travel to and from the front rows of New York, London, Milan and Paris fashion weeks. In between getting friendly backstage at Haider Ackermann with Tilda Swinton and sharing an inside joke in the backseat of private car, we also hear substantive trend analysis from the likes of Bergdorf Goodman’s Linda Fargo (“modernist ’50s couture shapes”), actress and LVMH First Lady Salma Hayek (“flowers in a whole new way”) and of course, the editors themselves, who highlight opulence, ‘geek chic’ and romanticism as some of the major looks for the coming season.
Watch Kenzo’s Pre-Fall 2012 collection come to life in this Quentin Jones-shot campaign ad featuring model Nadia posing on scaffolding, dancing with giant hula hoops, and accessorizing with a variety of brightly-colored props. Mixing video with spliced slo-mo and a kind of magazine cut-out collage animation, Jones and Nadia strike a mood that is equal parts M.I.A. punk-pop, “Heathers” prep, and Andy Warhol Factory club kid. Perfect for a collection (and a brand) big on vibrant color, graphic prints and whimsical accessories.
Watch Roberto Cavalli, fashion designer and mixologist, as he takes you, step by step, through how to make his namesake vodka cocktail. In his usual tone and cheerful Italian-ized English, Cavalli (and a very calm parrot) remind you that there is a sense of humor behind all those $5,000 gowns and yacht parties in Sardinia. Plus, who can resist a very rich man who starts his own vodka label for no other reason than that he enjoys making a stiff mid-day drink?
Watch fashion photographer David Sims’s visually stunning interpretation of Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen’s Fall 2012 collection. Weaving together bold graphic visuals with actual backstage footage from the designer’s February runway show, Sims manages to elevate both the clothing’s intricate elegance and its “Blade Runner”-esque styling. And, if after watching you feel the need to own those reflective visor glasses, just click on over to the McQueen website, where they are already available for just $475.
Watch Azealia Banks rap about crop-tops while wearing several in this new video for the Fall 2012 T by Alexander Wang collection. After providing the soundtrack to the designer’s Spring 2012 campaign video and accompanying him to this year’s Met Gala, it’s safe to say Ms. Banks has qualified for official “muse” status. The pairing makes perfect sense given the 21-year-old rising star’s sexy style and the CFDA award winner’s hard-edged aesthetic. All signs point to this not being their last collaboration.
And as a bonus, check out what many are saying is high fashion’s best-ever GIF, courtesy of former Vogue Paris editor in chief Carine Roitfeld, whose new print effort, CR Fashion Book, makes its long-awaited debut in September.
