Given that 59% of British consumers collect information online that influences their purchase decisions, brand visibility in online searches matter. However, brand site SEO rank is not the only determining factor as consumers often gather tidbits from third-party sites. In the U.K., industry blogs and community sites RateBeer.com and BeerAdvocate command a significant share of search results even though less than 10% of each site’s traffic comes from the U.K.
RateBeer, which owns 5.2% of total real estate for beer-related search results, is a popular resource in the country for consumer ratings of beer brands and retailers. It also publishes articles on beer industry events and beer-related editorials. Beer Advocate, the second largest beer review hub, commands 38% of blog and community site results for beer-related searches.
While almost all content on these sites is user generated, brands should use them to monitor conversations about their brand. Furthermore, they can be places for brands to promote events.
