The most glaring case is Joe Fresh, who opened up stores in the U.S. in 2011 but has yet to offer shipping in the region. Department store Holt Renfrew also only delivers to Canadian addresses.

 

On the flip side, a handful of U.S.-headquartered stores are serving Canada with limited offerings. For example, Sephora offers shipping to Canada with a pared down loyalty program. Target.ca has a store locator but no e-commerce in contrast to its robust e-commerce presence in the U.S.

 

But the true model for expansion abroad is the U.K., where its growth outpaces domestic. U.K. have the mindset that internationalization is the norm, and 74% of the country’s top retail sites have international shipping.
