L2’s Intelligence Report: Amazon finds that eyewear accounts for 51% of fashion SKUs on the platform, more than accessories, shoes, apparel or handbags. These listings, often made by third-party sellers, account for up to 95% (in the case of Max Mara) of a brand’s Amazon presence.
The wide presence of sunglasses and glasses is due to the fact that they are licensed products, and therefore their distribution is not subject to the same scrutiny as items made in house. Surprisingly, well-known manufacturer of luxury optics Luxottica does not account for the majority of Amazon eyewear listings. L2’s study found that in a sample of 1,248 eyewear listings, 53% were manufactured by Safilo, 22% by Luxottica, 13% by Marcolin and 12% by Marchon.
