Universally credit cards are the preferred payment method for online purchases, except in Germany where 42% of online shoppers prefer to purchase on account and just 8% like to use credit cards. PayPal is the second most popular method of payment for 28% of consumers. Germany is a stark contrast to the U.K. where 98% of online customers prefer credit or debit cards and PayPal.
Meanwhile, L2’s Digital IQ Index: Personal Care Germany finds brands are not taking into account their consumers’ preferences when installing payment options on German sites. Just 17% of brand sites allow purchases on account while all have enabled credit cards.
