Hiring experienced retail executives can help evolved e-tailers smooth the transition from e-commerce to brick-and-mortar. L2’s Intelligence Report: Death of Pureplay Retail reveals that a high percentage of senior management hires by successful evolved brands come from strong multichannel players.
For example, Warby Parker hires 9% of its non-entry level team from Apple and 3% from Anthropologie. Meanwhile, the Bonobos management team includes talent from J. Crew, Nordstrom, and Gap.
Another example is Birchbox, which made four key senior level retail hires in 2015 – displaying its commitment to brick-and-mortar. Those hires included Offline Retail Design Director Andrew Lande-Shannon, who previously held titles at Joe Fresh, Prada, and Abercrombie & Fitch, and Retail VP Douglas Simpson, who opened more than 60 stores with Juicy Couture.
