A new year means a new series of L2 events. The first, a half-day clinic we’re calling, ‘Focus 2013,’ will take place in just over two weeks on January 24. A three-module clinic (the first of four for the year), ‘Focus 2013’ will be held at NYU Stern and explore some of the key challenges luxury brands will face in the year ahead. Each of the clinic’s three segments will cover a different angle of the luxury industry: (1) China’s slowdown, (2) the changing landscape of retail, and (3) digitization strategy for multi-brand enterprises.


Doug Guthrie, China scholar and Dean of George Washington University’s School of Business, will lead a module on the big China question, namely, whether the economic slowdown is actually a slowdown and something¬† prestige brands needs to prepare for, long-term. To educate on the booming Chinese beauty industry: BeautyBank’s Vimla Gupta and Andra Mielnicki, VP for Marketing and Executive Director for Global Communications, respectively, will present.


In our second module on new retail, Sapient Nitro will helm a session with Luxottica Head of Digital Commerce John Decaprio, and Pose.com founder Alisa Gould-Simon. Together, these speakers will present case studies and outline best practices for digital and mobile programming that focuses on driving brick and mortar sales in an increasingly multi-channel environment.


For our third module, L2’s Head of Research and Consulting Maureen Mullen and NYU Stern professor of Management and Organizations Sonia Marciano will delve into the ‘enterprise effect’–specifically, how luxury brands should confront its unique opportunities and challenges.
