From the numbers alone, there’s no question that new social media platform Pinterest is different from the rest. Since its launch in May of last year, the site has gone from 418,000 unique visitors per month to a staggering 11.7 million–an increase of more than 27x. Much of this rapid success can be attributed to Pinterest’s easy integration with already established social media perches like Facebook and Twitter. Instead of setting up and personalizing an entirely new account, all new users are required to do is submit an email address, click “request invitation” and start pinning.
