On a number of fronts, upscale retail had a very good week this week. Tuesday, Saks and Macy’s both announced impressive fourth-quarter revenue upticks of 6.8 percent and 5 percent, respectively. Yesterday, Nordstrom was named the country’s best for retail customer experience by the American Customer Satisfaction Index. And then today, Bloomingdale’s, already an industry leader in mobile commerce, launched another innovative initiative: two interactive catalogs, The Stylist (women) and The Essentialist (men), each with SMS actions and QR codes throughout. When scanned using the Scanlife app, these QR codes reveal additional information about the looks on each page, including designer details, where to purchase each selection, styling tips and more. For users without the app capability, Bloomingdale’s offers a free text code to access the information.
