Every Fashion Week, a theme emerges. Not necessarily fashion trend-related but more ‘future of the industry’-related. In recent years, these themes have all been overwhelmingly driven by digital. From Burberry’s live-streamed shows ushering in the era of front-row access for everyone, to the rise of the Fashion Blogger, to e-tailers like Moda Operandi creating a new retail standard by offering immediate pre-purchase of runway looks, digital innovations have no question changed the Fashion Week experience for the designers, the buyers, the editors, and the fans. This September, as NYT Style writer Eric Wilson laid out¬†yesterday, and as L2 Founder Scott Galloway commented earlier in the week to WWD, the newest Fashion Week theme is more existential: “is there still a point?”

In this new video interview, Galloway expands on his Fashion Week views and offers advice to emerging designers, which, put bluntly, amounts to focusing less on the “distraction” of runway shows and more on the collections.
