Bed Bath & Beyond’s purchase of home furnishing site One Kings Lane for a ‘not material’ price spells the death of not only flash sale sites, but pureplay e-commerce websites as well. While the acquisition price was undisclosed, Bed Bath & Beyond reported less than $600 million in cash in its latest earnings call. This means One Kings Lane was bought for much less than its previous valuation. L2’s VP of Beauty Claude de Jocas lists other pure play retailers that have been bought for much less than their investors’ dreams, and explains why shops without brick-and-mortar locations cannot survive in today’s retail environment.
