Today, both the fashion and tech communities are only talking about one thing: Apple’s bombshell announcement that Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts will soon be the company’s new head of retail, a position left vacant since last October when Tim Cook ousted┬áJohn Browett. Intersections between these two industries, even these two companies–just last month, Burberry and Apple partnered to cross promote Fashion Week and the new iPhone 5S launch–are nothing new. Given our increasingly mobile lifestyle and the growing global demand for fashion and real-time access to fashion events, they also make a lot of sense.

In this new video interview, L2’s Head of Research & Advisory Maureen Mullen discusses one of the newest tech-fashion collaborations, Google+ and the CFDA’s Shoppable Hangouts featuring some of the organization’s most popular designers like Diane von Furstenberg and Rebecca Minkoff. Mullen acknowledges the buzz these A-List digital events are generating but questions whether they are more novelty than part of a sustainable, profit-making social commerce strategy.
